School Counsellors in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education must possess a masters degree in counselling and engage in continuing education and professional development on a regular basis to maintain their counselling skills and keep current with new studies and trends in the field of counselling. Many counsellors also belong to professional organizations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and the Nova Scotia School Counsellors Association.
